The root of our customization & expression stems from a well known Nintendo game, Splatoon. The original creator of Individual Apparel noticed that in Splatoon the clothing customization always felt special and different compared to other games, almost like there was an unspoken importance to it. He could never put his finger on why though, until one fall evening, he had a revelation. To unveil his discovery we first need to explain the customization rules of splatoon. Compared to other games where you can often customize many aspects of your character to the point where each player is almost always different, Splatoon only offers three character customization options, shirt, hat, and shoes. The actual clothing selection is also limited so you often come across players with some of the same, or similar items of clothing as you. You may think this is slightly counterintuitive but the creator of Individual Apparel pinned that aspect of the game as the reason the fashion felt so important. The fact that there is enough variety to feel individual but enough similarity to relate to others, he believed, created the perfect feeling of individuality yet belonging that makes one want to express themselves. Thus, he created Individual Apparel, in hopes that people would get to experience that same feeling of belonging intertwined with individuality that created the perfect mix for him.
